DIRECTOR'S WELCOME :
Welcome to the National University Biomedical Research Institute (NUBRI) at the National University. NUBRI is at the cusp of a new era of cutting-edge research that capitalizes on the innovative and resourceful faculties of medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and medical laboratory. Biomedical research at NUBRI is a multidisciplinary scientific enterprise that focuses on targeted Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), Hepatitis B,C and D and Covid 19 disease.
The main objectives of NUBRI are revolved around
1- Building capacity of bioinformatics and genomics in Sudan
2- Assisting the Sudanese scientists in these fields
3- Fuel databases with biological data of local non-human samples including pathogens, animals, and plants.
To achieve these goals, we have established fully equipped genomics and bioinformatics unites. Also, we organized local workshops, conferences, hosting important online bioinformatics training workshops such as NGS and Bioinformatics course that was introduced in collaboration between H3AbioNet and Wellcome genome campus initiatives, and collaborations with experienced oversea researchers. Moreover, we collaborated with bioinformatics institution in Africa such as South African National Bioinformatics Institute (SANBI), H3bionet and National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) in South Africa. And we built collaboration with many universities such as University Putra Malaysia (UPM). Also, we have been doing some projects in pathogen genomics and published many manuscripts in peer reviewed journals.
NUBRIis involved in continuous training of undergraduate and graduate students, junior technicians and researchers on the Molecular biology and bioinformatics. It is also acting as a catalyst for an atmosphere of open and free exchange of ideas and expertise among research institutions within the Sudan and Africa countries. Furthermore, it periodically receives scientists of international status as speakers and visiting scholars. As the director of NUBRI, and with the support of the National University-Sudan, as well as my colleagues at NUBRI, I will do my utmost to help and support all investigators affiliated with NUBRI and other interested academic and research units at our campus. Engagement of faculty and students with the culture of science we are all working so hard to sow on our campus and interaction with and service of the local community are ideals we strive to nurture.
