Strategic Partnerships & Collaborations
NUBRI works with national and international partners to advance research, training, and innovation. Below is an overview of our formal collaborations and joint initiatives.
NUBRI: Sudan’s National Node of the African BioGenome Project (2021–2031)
Research Collaboration Slug: nubri-african-biogenome-project
Years: 2021 – 2031
NUBRI proudly serves as Sudan's official national node for the African BioGenome Project (AfricaBP), a transformative continental initiative running from 2021 to 2031. As a key institutional partner, NUBRI advances genomic research, biodiversity conservation, and public health innovation across Africa. This partnership enables NUBRI to contribute to generating, analyzing, and applying genomic data for African species—supporting agriculture, medicine, and environmental sustainability. By integrating local expertise with international collaboration, NUBRI is building national capacity and empowering the next generation of scientists.
COVID-19 Molecular Diagnostic & Research Laboratory
National Health Infrastructure Collaboration Slug: covid19-diagnostic-research-laboratory
NUBRI established Sudan's first private COVID-19 molecular diagnostic laboratory, officially accredited by the Federal Ministry of Health and the National Public Health Laboratory (ESTAC). The lab processes up to 1,000 samples per day using advanced molecular techniques. It participates in external quality assessment (EQA) programs—including One World Accuracy's COVD435 scheme—achieving 100% concordance. Beyond diagnostics, the lab conducts advanced COVID-19 research and is staffed by expert clinical scientists and molecular biologists.
Galaxy NUBRI: Democratizing Bioinformatics in Sudan
Digital Infrastructure Collaboration Slug: galaxy-nubri-bioinformatics-platform
Years: 2025 – 2025
Galaxy NUBRI (https://nubri.usegalaxy.eu) is Sudan's first cloud-based bioinformatics analysis platform, developed by NUBRI and hosted with technical support from Galaxy Europe. The platform provides cloud-hosted genomic and bioinformatics tools that support research, training, and collaborative development in a secure and reproducible environment. Galaxy NUBRI strengthens Sudanese scientific infrastructure, enhances regional capacity, and sustains long-term research productivity. The platform supports sequencing workflows, genomics, antimicrobial resistance studies, structural biology, and postgraduate research, making advanced computational tools accessible to the scientific community.
